The inspiration for Lliam's looks was a mix of LBP's Sackboy and a little bit of Coraline.
His whole story and the relationship between Lliam and William has been greatly inspired by the Angry Beavers, Tom and Jerry, and CatDog.
When time came for me to gather my preferences, I looked at many plushies and also renders of the sackboy. I wanted him to have a skin made out of canvas fabric, specifically very fine jute canvas. So I bought some and studied it closely. Fortunately I had plushies that I could base his seams off of. For the button eyes that I has been inspired by Coraline (maybe not as evil looking) to let him have, I bought big plastic buttons and used the color orange that would go with his natural creamy canvas skin color.
I also acquired some soft leather for his nose texture and color reference and my character reference book was complete and I could start basing my character on it.
This blog shows the process of Lliam's transformation from a simple model, to a fully alive textured character.
