Skin Shaders

Color, Bump and Specular (Canvas):

Bump Map

After the UVs were set up, as the next project to follow we learned about how to paint the color, bump and specular map using Body Paint 3D. This process also was not without its own challenges. I personally had to go back more than a few times to redo the color and bump maps. As for specular, since the only shiny spot on Lliam's body is his nose, I didn't have much to deal with, and spent more time on the other two maps to form the canvas texture. The insides of his ears were a later decision; flower patterned fabric, with a much finer bump of a cotton fabric.
The colors I chose for Lliam were a creamy yellow color that was close to a non-processed jute canvas fabric. And for his nose, I worked off of my reference piece of  leather, and chose the color and bump based on it. Around the seams, the color started to get darker to create the illusion of a bump as the seam slides inwards. I had to color the skin completely before I could move on to the next step and base the displacement on it, but that's whole other chapter.

Button Eyes:

I used the fast skin shader, both as an exercise, and also to get the little sense of back scatter to the plastic buttons. The color orange was chosen so it'd go with his skin color, and to also brighten up his character looks, as the default mind set for button eyes right now takes up back to Coraline and it being all creepy. I believe brightening up the color was a successful and effective change. I used a bump map on the button to break up the specular to some extent and make it look more natural.
